NEW YORK METS
CITI FIELD
Overall Score: 80.0 out of 100
We arrived at Citi Field at around 5:20 pm on Wednesday June 5, 2019. They are playing the San Francisco Giants at a 7:10pm start.
Aesthetic: 7.4
As we arrived to Citi Field you could see the towering brick and black industrial metal architecture. As you walked through security, into the atrium, and around the concourse it felt like you were indoors. We were blown away with how big the stadium feels. The field itself was nice. It had dark green seats, a lot of advertisements, a lot of sponsored clubs that you could get into like: Porsche, Hyundai, Delta, Foxwood, Jim Beam, etc.We loved that during the game they had a National and American League live score board above left field to see what other scores were in the leagues. The Shea bridge was a notable feature that one could see from anywhere on the field.
Atmosphere: 6.8
The atmosphere was rather quiet and laid back. There was impending weather, so some may have decided to skip the day out at the game. Also, had it been a higher stakes game we feel that the energy would’ve been electric.
Cleanliness: 6.8
The stadium was rather clean. One could tell that they had swept the concourse the night before. The seating area was nice, but could’ve used a good pressure washing. There was a little bit of a green tint to the ground. The bathrooms were very clean and well kept as well.
Seating Options: 8.5
There were a lot of different seating options. First, there were a lot of clubs sponsored by various companies. A lot of tickets gave you access to certain clubs. The field level section of the stadium was much larger than most. It tucked all the way back into the concourse. The third level which is where we sat would be a second level to many fields. It was a good view and offered a quieter concession stand and restroom area than down on the concourse.
Parking: 9.1
There was a lot of parking around the stadium without even going into the stadium gate parking area. We ended up going into the gates and parked at a lot right next to the stadium. It was veyr easy to find a spot, there were a lot of options, and they were very centrally located and had a quick exit strategy to get back on the highway. The only downfall was rather narrow parking spaces.
Pricing: 7.3
Parking- Parking costs $25 to get you fairly close to stadium. The lot next to the stadium and other lots outside of the gate were all that same $25.
Food- Food was fairly expensive in pricing for a typical ball field and compared to ones we have visited thus far. Pizzas were $13.75+, hot dogs $6.50+, italian ice $5+, burgers $9+, etc.
Tickets- The best prices typically seemed to be in left field that could get you pretty close. We checked prices right at about 30 minutes before the game through the Mets website. Tickets that were going for $100-$400 dollars before going for $58 in the lower level behind home plate. Upper level is around $15-30 but as low as $6 right before game time. On a typical night if you buy tickets before upper level will be $20+, third level will be $50+, and field level will be $75+.
Merchandise- The merchandise was pricier than one would hope. The baseballs were between $8-$12. Apparel was on the higher end, but good quality.
Fan Involvement: 7.4
Fan involvement was decent during the Mets game. You could tell there are a lot of loyal Mets fans that go to a lot of games and cheer them on no matter what. The Let’s Go Mets cheer was the prominent cheer that got the most people involved.
Food: 9.2
There were a lot of food options at Citi Field. We found it very cool that there were a lot of local companies that had a stand. For example Emmy Squared, Shake Shack, and Do (a cookie dough place). They had a lot of fun dessert options as well.
Mascot: 7.8
Mr. Met was a fun loving and interactive guy. You’d see him walking through the stands with fans following, he led the 7th inning stretch with Take Me Out to the Ball Game. He was the first ever mascot in the MLB, but he is needless to say quite boring in look. I find it odd that he has a long nose, given he is a baseball.
Souvenir Shop: 9.7
We have never seen so many souvenir shops. There were so many options from: the big store at the front of the stadium with a sale area outside of it, Nike store, 47 shop, and a lot more little shops all about. There were plenty of options for the perfect trinket, outfit, or souvenir. They also had a pretty big selection of pins and trading for pin collectors.
Miscellaneous/Extra Innings:
-
We found the field maintenance to be quite weird between innings. It wasn’t a smooth cohesive method. It was like they were going in every which direction.
-
There was a nice kids play area with whiffle ball.
-
If it were to rain toward the back of field level, and most of third level would all be covered.
-
There was a nice Hall of Fame near the entrance gates that showed a lot of cool Mets history and memorabilia.
